Hossa, Ladd played hurt in Cup finals

NHL, Chicago Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- Chicago Blackhawks winger Marian Hossa said Saturday that he played the Stanley Cup finals with a sprained MCL in his right knee, suffered in Game 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

"In Game 1, I sprained my MCL, so it was kind of a little difficult," Hossa said. "But you don't feel the pain as much compared to if you lose, it would be more painful."

Hossa, who also dealt with the lingering effects of shoulder surgery all season and a banged-up back in the finals, said he got through the pain with two braces.

Another Blackhawks winger, Andrew Ladd, confirmed that he was playing with a fractured left shoulder when he rejoined the lineup for the Blackhawks' last three games. He said he injured it when he got caught in a weird spot with Patrick Marleau in game 4 against San Jose, but that the trainers kept him from feeling too much pain.

"It was frozen up," Ladd said. "We tried pretty much everything. I'd get to the rink at eight in the morning and probably get home at eight at night, doing all sorts of different things. I was going to make sure I got back."

Ladd was uncertain whether the shoulder would require offseason surgery.

"It's tough to judge with the fracture," Ladd said. "They can't really see how the tear is, we have to see how it settles down. Hopefully everything heals up by rehabbing it for a month."

The Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in Game 6 on Wednesday.
