CHICAGO -- Ben Bishop's mystery injury is no longer a mystery.
The starting goaltender for the Tampa Bay Lightning revealed following his team's season-ending 2-0 loss in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals against the Chicago Blackhawks that the injury he suffered in Game 2 was a torn groin.
Bishop gritted through the injury for Game 3 but was forced to sit Game 4, in which he was replaced in net by 20-year-old Andrei Vasilevskiy. Bishop returned in Game 5 but seemed to be playing through pain since sustaining the tear.
Bishop was not the only Lightning player who was battling an injury. Key center man Tyler Johnson, the catalyst of the team's "Triplets" line, told reporters he had been playing through a broken right wrist.
"Yeah, I'm sure whatever protocol comes out, guys, eventually we'll let you know what happened," Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. "Guys had significant injuries, and it was clear. I'm sure you watched. It affected big parts of our team.
"But we've got by on our depth all year. Got to give a lot of credit to Chicago. Extremely deserving champion. They're a really, really good hockey team. You give them an inch, they took a mile. That's what they did."
