Daniel Radcliffe films Guns Akimbo as he strips down to boxers and dressing gown for pistol-wielding scenes in Auckland

And Daniel Radcliffe proved he was poles apart from his squeaky clean wizard alter-ego when he was spotted shooting scenes for his new flick, Guns Akimbo, in Auckland, New Zealand last week.

The British actor, 28, took to the streets in just a pair of boxers and a dressing gown, wielding two pistols during a shoot-out with a police officer.

The disheveled-looking star sported a messy hairdo, scruffy beard and a wide-eyed expression during the tense scenes.

On his feet were a pair of oversized comedy slippers in the shape of bear paws.

This marks the first time Daniel has been spotted on set for the dark comedy, which also features Home and Away star Samara Weaving. 

Guns Akimbo is directed by Jason Lei Howden, whose debut feature, Deathgasm, premiered in 2015 at SXSW.

The flick follows Daniel as Miles, an office working who is fighting to save his kidnapped girlfriend.

Speaking about the film to the NZ Herald last month, Daniel said: 'Jason Lei Howden has written a brilliant and delightfully insane script, and working with him as director and alongside the fantastic Samara to bring it to life is going to be a lot of fun.'

He then joked of the violent role: 'If you see me around Auckland looking very worse for wear and covered in blood and bruises, don't worry, this is probably for filming.'  

Producer Joe Neurauter commented: 'Jason Lei Howden is an incredibly talented new filmmaker, who with Guns Akimbo’delivers a commercial action film that is original, fresh and gives us unique and exciting characters. 

'We are convinced that audiences will love to discover Daniel as Miles.'
