Beltless trousers only with suits?

First it was that I found I could not bear suspenders in summer so I started getting my summer suits with belt trousers. Then I started to feel self concious--especially in the Midwest and West Coast--in suspenders. They just are not seen in those places. So I got some very basic business suits with belt trousers.

Then of course I got the three blazer suits with belt loops. And now, basically, I wear suspenders only with older suits, with DB, or under a vest.

People seem satisfied with my explanation, "You don't have to tighten your belt after a big meal." Then again, I'm usually either in the South or East Coast.

I like braces or side adjusters with a suit. For a business suit I prefer braces, for a suit that I wear afterhours I prefer side tabs.

Belt with odd-trou for the visual effect, but honestly I think i'd like the side tabs better. I think I could switch over to a belt-less wardrobe and never miss it.

I'd get all my trousers with side tabs if I could. I never wear a belt with a suit, usually going for braces. If I wearing a sports coat I'll wear braces there too. Without a jacket I wear a belt, but I'd prefer side tabs instead.

Agreed. I think it's a much cleaner look without a belt and would never wear one if I had my way.

Going beltless is very comfortable. Only my chinos have belt loops.

keep in mind, this may be one of those things that while you and I know it means you're fancy pants and they fit right and all, the average Joe will probably assume you just forgot to put your belt on that morning and laugh at you.

from my experience, 'average joes' that i know usually are curious as to why i wear something a certain way and never think i made some kind of mistake. they think im sort of a fashion expert. even when i mistakenly wore two socks of a different color.

average joes in the street i dont know? well, i dont care what they think.

The key is never to admit fault. Soon, you may not be the only one with mismatched socks.

+1. Belts can however lend some contrast, item of interest to an outfit.

I've been ordering 3 piece suits of late...
Which means no belt loops, and a good pair of suspenders are more then appropriate!

I don't think average Joe would notice that. GI Joe, maybe, but not his marsupialed cousin Average. He'll just point, snort, and laugh. GI might take a second look.

I've never had anyone comment on my side-tabbed pants for their beltless-ness in any way, positive or negative.

I wear cufflinks from the 1920's with facings on both sides and a chain link, I had someone ask me if my cufflinks were in backwards one day. Rotating my wrist proved to them that they were incorrect in their assumption and life went on without 'pointing, sorting or laughing'.

The same approach applied to these pants may work just as well, such as asking your average joe if he sees any belt loops.
